December 30, 1968 – May 30, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Richard after a valiant battle with cancer, in the comfort of his home on Friday, May 30, 2025.
Richard was the dedicated and loving husband of Brenda Smith-Klein and while he did not have children of his own, he opened his heart and home to Brenda’s daughter Brianne; he adored his girls. Richard will be terribly missed by his father Jerry Klein (Linda) and his mother Elaine Klein (nee Vader) as well as by his siblings Robert Klein (Heidi), Catharine Fledderus (Harold), and Patricia Pranger. He was the proud uncle of Evan and Olivia Klein, Zachary, Cassandra, and Natasha Fledderus, and Aaron, Ryan, Savannah and Ava Pranger.
A true Hamiltonian, Richard worked at Dofasco for almost 25 years, building many friendships along the way. While not at work, you could almost certainly find him at a golf course, most days with a good group of buddies or family. Richard loved sports, anything with a ball would do, really. He was particularly fond of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Blue Jays, London Knights, and of course the Toronto Maple Leafs, having endured yet another year of playoff let down. Above all else, he was a kind hearted man and always there to lend a hand to whoever needed it. To know Richard was to love him, you just couldn’t help it. He will be missed beyond measure.
As per Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a time of Visitation at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street E., Hamilton, on Friday June 27 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 1:00 pm. If desired, donations to the Juravinski Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated by the family.
