Ron was predeceased by his parents Eric and Louise Smith and on March 19, 2020, by his beloved wife Evelyn Smith. Ron completed his plastering apprenticeship in 1952 and created beautiful, plastered ceilings. With the start of his young family, he changed careers. He was employed as a Mail Carrier with Canada Post for 33 years before he retired. During the years of raising his family, he was a member of St. John’s Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was an Usher and Captain at Tiger Cat Football Games and a long time Green Bay Packer fan. After retirement he did a lot of travelling to England, Yellowstone Park, the Caribbean and went on several cruises to Alaska with his wife Evelyn. Fondly remembered were the many family parties including picnics and camping trips. Ron was a gentle soul with a smile that will be missed by many. A child of God has gone home.
Ron is survived by Vera Smith, the mother of his children, his children Susan Reeder (Don), Nancy Wilcox (Lindsay), Daniel Smith (Marsha) and by his stepchildren Linda Dalgleish (Peter), Wayne Wilson (Kathy) and Karon Peddle (Rob). Ron is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren. Special thanks to the staff at St. Peters Hospital and Marion his Palliative Care Nurse for their care and compassion. As per his wishes, cremation and a private graveside service have taken place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mission Services Hamilton in Ron’s name.
