Peacefully at the Dr Bob Kemp Hospice, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, Santino Canci entered into peaceful rest on March 6, 2012, aged 66. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband and best friend of Angela Canci (DiDiodato) with whom he shared 42 wonderful years. Loving father of Filomena (Carlos) Tavares and Michael Angelo Canci. Adoring grandfather to Alessia and Adriana Tavares. Predeceased by his parents Arcangelo and Filomena Canci, in-laws Alpino and Teresa DiDiodato, sister Rosa (Italo) DeCarolis, brother Pietro Canci, sister-in-law Concetta Leombruno (DiDiodato) and brother-in-law Agostino (Gus) DiDiodato. Santino is survived by his brother Policarpo Canci (Italy), sister-in-law Mary and Vince DiBacco, brothers-in-law Luigi and Maria DiDiodato, Luigi Leombruno, and sister-in-law Annette DiDiodato. Santino is survived by many nieces and nephews in both Italy and Canada.
Santino has left us much too early. He will be missed tremendously by all those who adored him. He loved being with family and friends. He loved watching AC Milan and was an avid Ferrari fan. He lived for his family and loved going on hunting and fishing trips with his best friends. He recently retired from Dofasco after 40 years of service. His retirement was cut short by his battle with cancer. It is the strength and grace with which he fought this disease that we will remember. His determination to beat the disease allowed us to enjoy four additional years making wonderful memories together and enjoying trips to his beloved Italy together as a family.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Santino`s life will be held at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME , 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 2pm until the time of Catholic Liturgy at 6:30 pm with reception to follow.
We wish to acknowledge with gratitude the exceptional and compassionate care that Santino received at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to the Juravinski Cancer Centre and all our family and friends who helped support us during this difficult journey.
