Sofia Schustyk

Our dear mother, Baba and Pra Baba passed away peacefully April, 5 2015 at the age of 92. Sofia is predeceased by her husband Wasyl (Bill) in October 1990. She was the mother to Mary and Brian Roussel, Olga Shustyk and Gerry Dykstra, Irene and Doug Kay, and John Schustyk, and the proud and loving Baba to Tieneke Dykstra (Jeff), Emily Bodden (Derek), Rebecca Dykstra (Jamie), Natasha Forbes (Mike) and William Kay. She was also the cherished Pra Baba to Jewel, Angel, Isaiah, Charlie and Sam. Sofia will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Her family in the Ukraine is praying for her as well. Sofia was born in 1923 in Toporiw, Ukraine, and Wasyl and Sofia started their lives in Canada in 1951. Her Ukrainian heritage, her faith, and family were of utmost importance throughout her life. She was a faithful member of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral. The family extends their thanks to the staff at Cedar Terrace, St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke for their compassionate care over the years. The family will receive friends at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, on Saturday April 11 from 6-9 and on Sunday April 12, from 2-4 and 7-9 with Panachyda at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 855 Barton Street East, on Monday April 13 at 1:00 pm, with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery, Burlington. Donations to St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral would be gratefully accepted.
