

Predeceased and reunited with her husband Harry Popelyschyn, her sister Pawlina Hawryschko, brothers Joseph and Peter and her parents Stefan and Maria Hawryschko.
Beloved mother to Mary (Steve Procyszyn) and Walter Popylyshyn (Joanne). She was Baba to 5 grandchildren Adrian (Jamie), Mark (Lisa), Larissa (Jimmy), Jason (Pamela), Jennie (John), a Baba Baba to 11 great grandchildren Teagen (Carter), Kylee, Mikyla (James), Ethan, Riley, Nolan, Quinn, Jackson, Thomas, Callan and Camden, and a great Baba-Baba to Audrey-Mae. She was aunt to Julia Wandio.
In her earlier years Sophie was very active in the UCWL at Holy Spirit Church and was involved in many church fund-raising projects. It was at this time she discovered her love for cooking and cooked for many weddings, showers and other occasions and this continued when she lived at Villa Kiev Senior's Residence. She was also well known for her beautifully decorated Ukrainian Wedding Bread (Korovai) and many wedding tables were graced throughout Ontario.

Visitation at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton on Tuesday May 19, 2026 from 5-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 7 p.m. Funeral Service from the funeral home’s Chapel on Wednesday May 20 at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington.
