Peacefully passed away with his family by his side at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday, January 15th in his 73rd year. Beloved husband of Ljubica (nee Kurpis) for 44 blessed years. Loving father of Marianne and Steven (Nisha). Cherished Dida of Avi and soon to be second grandson. Dear brother of Georgia Petrina (Tony), brother-in-law of Ivan Brgan, Rudolf Kurpis (Mary) and sister-in-law Ruza Strusa (Janko). Predeceased by his parents Kuzman and Danijela Ferenac and sister Ljubica Brgan. He will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews and the many friends and relatives throughout Canada, Croatia, Germany, France and Australia. Stjepan retired from Harsco Corporation after 39 years of service. He had a passion for playing the accordion, valued his Croatian heritage and community, and enjoyed being in the company of his family and friends. In his younger years, Stjepan was an avid soccer player, and in his spare time enjoyed gardening, working on projects, and welding. After retirement he became involved in Hamilton Croatia men’s bocce league, and he loved spending time with his grandson Avi who was his pride and joy and brought so much happiness to his life. Visitation at the Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Wednesday, January 19th, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East, Hamilton on Thursday, January 20th, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, or the ALS Society of Canada would be appreciated.
