It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Valerio, in his 88th year on Friday, February 28, 2025. A gentle soul with a loving heart whose humility and humour made him who he was; to know him was to love him. By his side were his beloved children: Rita (Jesse) Italiano and Martin (Sandra) Maragno; grandchildren: Michaelangelo (Louisa) Italiano, Matthew (Carla) Italiano, Lauren (Jasmin) Pasic and Nicholas Maragno (Nikki). He was a blessed ‘bisnonno’ to Giasone Italiano, with two more great-grandchildren on the way. Along with his children and grandchildren, he leaves behind his adored sister, Lina (Massimiliano) Scattolon and many nieces and nephews to whom dad was more than an uncle; he was a ‘surrogate nonno’; a role he truly loved.
Valerio is reunited in the loving arms of his parents Emilio and Ada Maragno and his siblings and their spouses: Ampelio (Dina) Maragno, Rino (Elsa) Maragno, Rina (Bertillo) Beraldo, and Nella (Benny) Verardo.
A companion to the late Gina Campagnaro.
Dad was a long standing member of the Venetian Club with over 65 years of dedication, friendship and special memories made alongside his many member friends. A plasterer for 48 years, Valerio was hardworking, reliable, dedicated and always willing to help others; traits he instilled in his children.
Born in Lorregia, Padua, Italy, dad immigrated to Canada with his family when he was 13 years old. He enjoyed visiting his extended family in Italy for many years because he was so loved and treated with a unique beauty only family can know. We are so very grateful to his extended family.
He loved being surrounded by family and friends. He was always the life of the party and we now take away many hilarious and cherished memories and hold them dear to our hearts. While dad was passionate about his garden, he also enjoyed making salami and his signature vino with family and friends.
Dad’s love and light extended to his fur babies over the years; he leaves behind his girl, Capri and his boy, Sonny.
A very special thank you to all the staff at AgeCare Willogrove - Old Mill Neighbourhood. To the PSWs, nurses, and staff, you took such great care of dad, you loved him and he knew it; we see the ongoing dedication to everyone there and are grateful.
Dad, thank you for being an incredible father and role model to us. We have been able to share you with others who, in return, loved and adored you. You will always be missed; but we will remember you and smile at the fond memories we made together. May your light shine brightly upon us from Heaven.
