It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father on January 18, 2021 in his 88th year.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Isabelle (1999). Adored father to Catherine Johnstone, Bill Johnstone (Laurie) and Jodie Hyrski (Brian). Cherished grandfather to Brittney (Brandon) and Brian Jr. (Brittany). Predeceased by his sister Jesse Duncan (Dunc) and brother Sandy Johnstone (Eileen). Bill will be deeply missed by extended family and friends. Bill is also a Hamilton Sports Legend, in 1956 and 1957 he played defense in the intermediate Ti-Cats B Team. He got a try out into the pros and was offered to play but he decided to raise his family and work in the community instead. Bill retired from Westinghouse/ Northrop Grumman and was heavily involved in Burkholder United Church.

Bill: took me under his wing when I was just 19 years old and started working at Westinghouse in 1962. We had memorable years playing basketball and fastball for Westinghouse in the Hamilton Industrial Leagues. The last time I was talking to Bill was at the 2013 Testimonial Sports Banquet at the Leander 25 Club of Athletes and Sportsmen. I also remember going to their cottage at Sauble Beach in 1963. I sat on the beach all day and developed a very bad sunstroke. Your mother, Isabelle, nursed me back to health with plenty of cold compresses. They will always be remembered. May they rest in peace. My condolences to the Johnstone family.

I worked with Bill at Westinghouse & Northrop Grumman on Walker’s Line in Burlington.

I have such great memories of Bill, after my husband died, he would attend my son Nigel’s basketball games, along with Paul Hawkins. I often think of that and his kindness.

Rest In Peace Bill, you have certainly left your mark on everything you did.

Our sincere condolences, Carole Rawlins & Tom Strykowski

My heartfelt condolences to you all. A true kind and gentle man. A sad time but my immediate thoughts are of great memories...Always a friendly welcoming word...even when we were up to no good. (Although, he probably had no idea because we were so smart back then.) Loved his happy soul. Together again they are. Love you guys.
