Yvan Roy, in his 82 year, passed away peacefully on February 4, at the Hamilton General Hospital. He was born in Stornoway, Lac Mégantic , Quebec on February 24, 1943 to Albertine Bolduc and Gerald Roy. Yvan grew up in Milan, a small village. Stornoway is the city where he grew up, in a family of 8 children; 3 boys (Yvan, Rene, Gaetan), 5 girls (Louisette, Regane, Hugette, Nicole, Jocelynn). Together they lived on a farm and granpa Gerald Roy was the Founder and Mayor of Lac-Megantic, Quebec.
In his early 20s he moved to Ontario with granpa Roy.
He later met his future wife through friends and they hung out in a small group, they eventually became a couple and married. In 1971 they had a set of Twins Brenda and Brian. Yvan and his family were part of a small French community.
Yvan drove a cement truck for 25 years. He enjoyed playing guitar with friends and family he also founded The Hamilton Horseshoe Pitching Club and formed the non-profit organization in 1978. We spent our young years camping at a campground on the weekends. My dad had one of the biggest hearts, he always giving $5 to the homeless, donating to Ronald McDonald House and Shriner Hospital . In my dad's golden years he was able to travel around the globe for 17 years in his Winnebago.
Yvan will be remembered for his kindness heart and smile and warmth he brought to others.
Yvan is survived by his children Brenda and Brian (Shannen), his granddaughters Brytney (Jordan) and Stivi (Chris) and great-grandchildren, Olivia, Zoey, Grayson and Aurora. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, siblings Rene, Reganne, Hugette and Gaetan, his mom Albertine and dad Gerald.
Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Paroisse Notre-Dame Du Perpétuel Secours, 132 Blake St, Hamilton, following the visitation at 1:00 pm. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Yvan’s honor to Ronald McDonald House or Cancer Society.
