It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Alice Kearney (b. 4/7/1948 – d. 7/26/2026). She was the daughter of Walter and Dorothy (both predeceased); wife of James (predeceased); mother to Khaj, Quinlan, and Alicia; grandmother to Zachary and Vincent; and aunt, cousin, and godmother to many others.
Alice married James (Jim) in July of 1969 and soon moved to Colchester, where she began volunteering as organist and choir director at St. Andrews Church. Alice and Jim adopted Khaj in 1978, and in 1989 she gave birth to Quinlan, followed by Alicia in 1990. She continued as music director at Sts. Peter and Paul Church of Norwich, CT; then Our Lady of Lourdes Church of Gales Ferry, CT where she grew to love hand bells; then back to Sts. Peter and Paul Church. She and Jim retired to Hampstead, NC in 2012, and she soon felt moved to dedicate her talents to All Saints Church, who she quickly convinced to love hand bells as well. She remained a beloved member of that church until she passed.
A lover of music, quilting, and crafts, Alice was a devout Catholic who shared her gifts with the church and the people she loved. Her love of music was infectious, often turning tentative singers and bell ringers into enthusiastic participants. She was generous and kind-hearted, with a smile for anyone who needed it.
A memorial service will be held at All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead, Thursday August 6th at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, please do a good deed for someone in need and think of Alice.
