

Rick was born in Burlington, North Carolina, and lived most of his life in Chapel Hill before making his retirement home in Hampstead with his wife, Mary.
He devoted 30 years of his life to serving the community as an officer with the Chapel Hill Police Department. During his career, Rick served as a K-9 officer alongside his loyal German Shepherd partners "Kopper" and "Otto". Upon his retirement, Rick was recognized for three decades of dedicated service as one of Chapel Hill’s “Guardians of the Hill.”
Rick was an avid saltwater fisherman and hunter who enjoyed time in the outdoors spent with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard "Trey" C. Ennis III, his parents, Richard C. Ennis Sr. and Mary Etta Ennis; and his sister, Mary Kathryn Ennis.
Rick is survived by his wife, Mary Ennis of Hampstead; his daughter, Koryn (Jason) Surbrook of Los Alamos, NM; his sisters, Elizabeth (Steve) Garrard of Mebane and Susan (Mack) Grady of Durham; and other beloved family members and friends.
A service will be offered in his honor at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 24th at All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead, NC.
