

Anita Coles passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Born in Enfield, NC, she later made Hampton, Virginia, her home, where she worked in various capacities in retail. She had a fulfilling career with the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control (VA ABC) for 28 years. After retiring from VA ABC, she pursued a quieter life, relocating to Goldsboro, NC, where she spent the remainder of her life.
Anita is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, retired Lieutenant Commander Curtis Lee Coles of the Hampton Police Department. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Sandi Lee Townson and her husband, Robert, of Goldsboro, NC; her son Gregory Coles and his wife, Brandy, of Marietta, GA; and her wonderful grandchildren, Alexis Coles and Braylon Townson. She is also survived by her cousin Sandra March, her aunt Arlene Washington of Maryland, her sister-in-law Janie Wingate of Hampton, VA, and her nephew Conrad Coles of Florida, along with many dear friends who loved her.
Anita was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Allison Coles-Summersett, whose memory she carried in her heart, as well as her loving mother, Alice Jackson.
Her love, work ethic, and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
The family will welcome friends on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue Hampton, VA 23666. A brief service will begin at 12:30 PM, followed by entombment at Parklawn Memorial Park at 1:00 PM.
