Anne (Howard) Wheeler Redman, of Newport News, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 3, 2021. She is survived by her brother, Don Howard (Jo), her three children, Steve Wheeler (Donna), Kim Spano (Ron) and Matt Wheeler (Ronda), 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Melvin Howard, Sr. and Virginia Mae Cagle Howard, her brother James Melvin Howard, Jr., her sister Dorothy Osborne, her husband Robert Lemuel Wheeler, her husband Philip R. Redman and her granddaughter Mallory Wheeler.
Anne was truly a woman of God and a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman. She was a prayer warrior as was her mother before her. One of the promises from the Bible that she held onto and prayed often was from Isaiah 54:13 (NKJV) that says, “All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.” One of the last statements she made was how blessed she was that all of her children had accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Anne had great influence, an infectious laugh, and a deep desire to be in the presence of the Lord all the time. She lead a small prayer group of high school and college aged girls called “The Happening” who met to sing Scripture songs and pray. She had been involved with a ministry called Aglow. She was also part of the Healing Rooms ministry more recently. She was always smiling, laughing, and filled with such genuine joy and love that drew people to her.
Anne was a loving and devoted wife and mother who cherished her family deeply. She was selfless and motherly to all who came in contact with her. She was called by many names, Mom, Bootie, Mamama, Gramma, Gramma Anne, Aunt (Aint) Anne, Ol' Faithful, Lady Moses, and dear friend. She loved to give and to receive hugs. She loved to sing Scripture songs and worship Jesus.A true beach bum, she loved spending summers and weekends with her family at the “beach cottage” in the Outer Banks and any destination that had warm, sunny beaches. She was quite the fashionista and was always dressed to the nines and with every coordinated outfit whether animal print, pastel or bold color, she was adorned with coordinating jewelry, shoes, purse, and just the right amount of SPARKLE or BLING!
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at New Covenant Church, 1079 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA. Guests are required to wear a mask. Anne had recently said that she didn’t want anyone to be sad when her time to be with the Lord comes. So whether you are attending in-person or viewing the service live stream, let’s honor her by wearing our best SPARKLE and a huge smile as she so often did, and let’s celebrate Anne and the many memories of times with her as she is now in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ worshiping and rejoicing for eternity.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Anne's name to your favorite charity, church, or Christian organization.
