Antona Louise McConnell Vig, age 100, passed quietly from this life on April 3, 2023 at Sentara CarePlex in Hampton, Virginia. Her service will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 12:00 PM at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Yorktown, Virginia.
Antona, “Tom” or “Toni,” was born in Fargo, North Dakota where she lived until she turned 21, moved to New York City and eloped with Alfred B. Vig Jr, her childhood sweetheart. She and Al lived all over the United States from New York to California, finally settling in Hampton, Virginia in the early 1960’s. Antona has lived in Hampton, Virginia for the past 62 years.
Antona is preceded in death by her husband, “Al”; her parents, Agnes and H.E. McConnell Sr.; her brothers H.E. (Mac), Jr, Gerald, Adrey, and Charles McConnell; her sisters, Hazel (Tiny) Skelton, Catherine Griffin, and Ruth Berneking; and one Grandchild, Lora Vig. We're sure there was a joyous reunion in heaven and at least one Pinochle game.
She leaves her three children behind: JoHanna (Mike) Robinson, Allan (Marge) Vig, and Karen Walker. Her grandchildren mourn her passing as well: Donna (Steve) Skaggs, Ron Wilding, Michelle (John) Nizol, Deborah (Allen) Grimmett, Patty (Mike) Brown, Greg (Anne) Vig, John (LeNae) Walker, Kevin (Ann) Vig, Leigh (Charles) Wolfram; 15 Great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a plethora of nieces and nephews that adored her.
Go in peace Antona; you left a legacy of love behind you. You will be missed.
