

Betty Anne Southworth Archer, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at Sentara Regional Hospital in Williamsburg, Virginia, on October 12, 2024. She was born in Caroline County, Virginia, and found her home in Hampton, Virginia, in 1961 after completing her registered nursing education at Grace Memorial Hospital in Richmond Va. and marrying her devoted husband,
Raymond E. Archer, originally from Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Betty enjoyed a fulfilling nursing career at the OB-GYN Associates of Hampton; retiring after 40 years. Her dedication to her profession was matched only by her commitment to her community and her church. A member of Hilton First United Methodist Church in the Hilton Area of Newport News for over 30 years, she later transferred her affiliation to Bethany Methodist Church in Hampton, where she continued to nurture her faith by participating in the United Methodist Women’s group and supporting her church family in various other ways.
An avid traveler and passionate quilter, Betty found joy in creating beautiful pieces that she lovingly shared with family and friends. She had a special talent for making birthdays and Christmas memorable, delighting in giving thoughtful gifts that reflected her love and care.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Raymond E. Archer, of Hampton, VA. She leaves behind three daughters and their husbands: Karen Archer Steen and Terry A. Steen of Richmond, VA; Karel Archer Curtis and her husband, Joseph Curtis, of Hayes, VA; and Kristi Archer Pham and her husband, Pete Pham, of Gloucester, VA. Betty was also cherished by her seven grandchildren: Kelsey Curtis-Gloucester VA, Travis Levasseur -Los Angeles, CA, Joshua Curtis-Williamsburg, VA, Courtney Levasseur -Austin, TX, Katelyn Curtis -Winchester, VA, Connor Pham -Richmond, VA, and Gavin Pham -Gloucester,VA.
Betty's warmth, generosity, and loving spirit touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service celebrating Betty's life will be held at Parklawn Funeral Home on October 23, 2024, Officiated by Rev. Mary Sullivan-Trent of Bethany Methodist Church, with the viewing from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Parklawn Funeral Home is located at 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666. Burial with service will be held on October 24th at 1:00 PM at at Wrights Burying Ground, Ladysmith Rd., Ruther Glen, VA. All who wish to attend are welcome.
