Calvin ‘Bud’ Dewey Benton, 88, passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at his home in Hampton, Virginia. Calvin was born June 17, 1930 to Percy and Carrie Mae Benton of St. Joseph, Louisiana, 3rd to the youngest of six siblings who preceded him in death.
Calvin served in Korea while in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he retired after 23 years of service as the Chief Fire Inspector at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. After retirement from the military, he continued working to include many years at NASA in Hampton. After leaving the work force, Calvin loved spending time with his loving wife of 65 years, family, and friends. His favorite past times were travelling with his wife, fishing with his sons, and gardening.
Calvin is survived by his wife Eva Joan, daughter Brenda English, son Calvin Benton Jr. (wife Bobbie), and son Michael Benton. He was preceded in death by sons William and Robert. His surviving family includes nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Calvin's life will be held on Monday, December 17, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the American Heart Association in his name.
