

Charles was well known throughout the community mostly because he never met a stranger. He loved teaching Sunday School, Gospel Singings, family dinners just the simple things in life made him the happiest.
Charles served his Country in the Army National Guard; he also worked the head of Training at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a hard-working man who made sure he took his family on a family vacation every year. Most of all, he loved his wife Peggy, his kids and grandkids with every beat of his heart.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Hayes, Sr, mother, Ethel Hayes, and brother Thomas Hayes, Jr. He was survived by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Hayes, his Son, Chuck Hayes and Daughter, Sharon Rudge, his Grandchildren, Ashley Herndon, Bradon Hayes and Lindsey Hayes (Chuck’s), Dallas Hopkins and Jena Hopkins (Sharon’s) and three great grandchildren, Brothers, Edison Hayes (Georgia) and Michael Hayes (Gisela), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Family will be having a visitation on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m., both at Sharon Baptist Church 2625 N Armistead Avenue in Hampton. The graveside service will be following the Service at 12:00 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
