Colin was born in the hospital at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska on the cold, snowy morning of 10 October 1982. His father, a career Army officer was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska at the time.
Colin moved to Hampton, Virginia in July 1984 when his father was reassigned to Ft. Monroe. He grew up in Hampton, spending the rest of his life in the Tidewater area. He attended Hampton city schools and was an avid participant in the youth sports programs offered by the city, excelling at soccer.
At an early age Colin discovered he had an affinity for and considerable talent as a restaurant cook, and spent almost 20 years in the food service industry. His talents were well recognized, and he was a valuable addition to the kitchens of many restaurants in the Tidewater area. He loved to put smiles on people’s faces with his food.
Colin had legions of close friends throughout the region and loved sharing time listening to music – especially that of his favorite band The Grateful Dead. Colin was a devoted “Deadhead,” and traveled the country to watch and hear them play.
Colin was taken from this life far too soon, and his passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his parents, Lieutenant Colonel (US Army, Retired) W. Freed Lowrey of Fishkill, NY and Suzanne K. Lowrey of Hampton; his brothers, Kyle Christopher Lowrey of Spokane, WA and Brendan Patrick Lowrey of Hampton; his children, Colin Lowrey II, Lyle Lowrey and Dorothy Lowrey of Suffolk, VA and sons, Zion and Gideon Cowfer of Detroit, Michigan, and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A private memorial service is planned by the family.
