

He was the son of Woodman and Ellie Williams, both late of Portsmouth, VA. Mr. Williams is survived by his son, Brian D. Williams and wife Meredith Williams of Richmond, VA; sisters Tricia Williams of Wilmington, NC, Norma Briggs and her husband Rev. John Briggs of Richmond, VA, and Kathy Fisher and her husband Greg Fisher of Hampton, VA. Mr. Williams leaves two grandchildren, Mason Williams and Sarah Williams, both of Richmond, VA, three nephews, Alan Briggs of Maryland, Chris Blow of California, and Douglas Fisher of Hampton, VA, and two nieces, Beth Drummond of North Carolina and Jessie Fisher of Hampton, VA.
Mr. Williams was a 1965 graduate of the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech and he held the designation of Professional Engineer. Throughout his career he worked as a surveyor, civil engineer, project engineer and general contractor with various firms in Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and Virginia. He retired in 2010 from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Structure and Bridge Division in Richmond, VA. As a youth Mr. Williams excelled at sports and was a standout football player at Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth. He remained an avid college football fan throughout his life, and he held a special devotion to his beloved Virginia Tech Hokies. Mr. Williams also had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and he never stopped studying the hard sciences.
A memorial service will be held on August 18th, 2012 at 3:00 at First United Methodist Church Fox Hill located at 1 Salt Pond Rd., Hampton, VA 23664.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the National Network of Depression Centers. The NNDC accepts personal checks at 2929 Plymouth Rd. Ste. 300, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
