Dora Jean Massie

Dora Jean Massie, 86, peacefully went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 6, 2019. She was a native of Hampton Roads and a resident of Duck, NC. Dora was a devoted wife and mother. She was a lively women, better known as Granny; who loved to play with her great grandchildren, card games with friends, gardening a passion she got from her husband, listening to gospel songs by Elvis, watching the good ole black and white tv shows or Hallmark channel and putting together intricate puzzles. Dora was a member of Northside Church of Christ. She was preceded in rest by her husband, Dr. Charles E. Massie, the Love of her life; son, Charles E Massie, Jr and grand-daughter, April Gupton. She leaves to cherish her memories; two sons, J. Raymond Massie of North Pole, AK and James D. Massie and his wife, Julia of Duck, NC; daughter in-laws, Nancy Massie and Ann Marie Massie; six grandchildren, Danielle Massie-Howard, Jennifer Rowe, John Massie, Deana Seymour, Michelle Maleski and Julianna Massie and twelve great-grandchildren. Dora’s last note: My wish for you is that you spend time with your children, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones and never let your praying knees get lazy. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA. A celebration of life and visitation for Dora Massie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
