Doris B. Rich went home to be with the Lord on June 4th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, perfectly timed sarcasm, and a profound love of the color pink. She was the Rich family’s undisputed matriarch, head gossip correspondent, and the magical glue that somehow held us all together.
Doris was born on April 7th, 1944 in Nash County, NC to her beloved parents, Adron Rich Sr and Viola Rich. She is being welcomed home by her older brother, Adron Rich Jr (Sondra Rich), her older sister, Ida Mae Benthall (Wilton Benthall), her younger sister, Judy Frye (William Frye), and her sweet nephew, Alan Rich. She is survived by her younger sister, Lillie Shye (Howard Shye), her life-long friends Mary Jo Watterton and Peggy McCloud, along with her countless nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, who are entirely lost on how to host a holiday without her.
She officially retired from Siemens after 35 years of loyal service. While she was a dedicated worker who likely kept everyone on the job laughing, her true passions lay elsewhere. If she wasn’t working, you could guarantee she was either turning up the volume on her favorite Solid Rock Bluegrass tape or swooning over the King of Rock and Roll. She firmly believed that a high-tempo banjo solo or a good Elvis ballad could cure almost any ailment.
A Visitation will take place on Saturday June 13, 2026 at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, followed immediately by a Celebration of her life at 12:00 PM Pastor Joe Stroud, along with Pastor Dennis Peters of Hampton Friends Church, will be officiating the service. In honor of Doris, we ask that you leave your black suits in the closet and wear a splash of pink to help us celebrate the fabulous life she lived.
