Dorothy “Dot” Jean Smith, 78, of Yorktown, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on October 29, 2025. Born November 24, 1946, in Hinton, West Virginia, Dot later made her home in Hampton, Virginia, where she and her beloved husband, Robert Smith, shared 57 wonderful years of marriage and lovingly raised their two children, Catherine Smith and Scott Smith.
Dot was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus with all her heart. She found joy in singing and dancing for Him, and her faith shone brightly in everything she did. She loved sharing the Word of Jesus with everyone she met, and her kind spirit touched countless lives. She loved her daily walks—often seen cheerfully strolling through the Fox Hill community—and she never turned down a sweet treat.
Dot dedicated her life to caring for others as a babysitter and homemaker, sharing kindness, laughter, and love with everyone she met—especially children. Her greatest joy was her family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her endless happiness and pride.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smith; daughters, Catherine Smith and Angela Smith, who she now holds in Heaven; mother, Virginia Cales; sisters, Anne Lou Proffit and Sue Bartgis; brother, Don Caudell; and great-nephew, Brandon Clendenen.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Scott Smith (wife Julie Smith); granddaughters Jessica Wilson (husband Lee Brady), Casey Monfalcone, and Amie Wilson; grandson Rusty Wilson; and great-grandchildren Autumn Hunter, Blake Hunter, Landon Monfalcone, Brennan Wilson, and Daniel Wilson.
She is also survived by her brother, Richard Caudell; nieces Tammy Clendenen (husband John Clendenen) and Stephanie Angeletos (husband Nick Angeletos); great-nieces and nephews Crystal Toledo (husband Javi Toledo), Andrew Shattuck, Daniel Clendenen (wife Sierra Clendenen), Michael Clendenen (Katie Miller), Demetrius Angeletos, and Makenna Angeletos; and great-great-nieces and nephews Renly Clendenen, Parker Clendenen, and Nova Clendenen.
She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord.”
— Matthew 25:21
