Obituary of Dr. Jesse Hope Hogg, Jr.
Jesse Hope Hogg, Jr. DDS died peacefully at home on June 19, 2013 surrounded by family. "Buddy" practiced dentistry from 1953 to 1993 and was a lifelong farmer, quail hunter and fisherman. He loved life and enjoyed singing barbershop chorus with the Matinee Idlers group. Born January 31, 1923 in the family home on Briarfield Road, Buddy was a Hampton native. He was a Hampton Crabber, class of 1940. He attended the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding until drafted during World War II. He served as a sharpshooter in Patton's 3rd Army in Europe. He was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge and awarded the Purple Heart. Returning home, he attended and graduated from the College of William & Mary, class of 1950, and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School, class of 1953. Buddy is survived by his wife and partner of more than 60 years, Ann Morris Hogg; two sons, Jesse Hope Hogg III and wife Paula Anderson Hogg of Hampton, and Thomas Morris Hogg of Richmond; five grandchildren, Ann Tyler Hogg Wheeler and husband Phillip Barrett Wheeler of Bloomington, IN, Michael Thomas Hogg and wife Ann Somers Wilton Hogg of Charlotte, NC, Emily Lange Hogg, Anna Elizabeth Hogg, and Katherine Mae Hogg, all of Hampton. He also is survived by his sister, Margaret Hogg Hatchett; two nephews, Robert Bryan Hatchett, and Phillip Lewelling Hatchett and wife Isabel Duncan Hatchett; and two grandnieces, Rebecca Lee Hatchett and Juliette Bryan Hatchett. Following a private burial, a memorial service will be held at Hampton Baptist Church, 40 Kings Way, downtown Hampton at noon on Monday, June 24, 2013. A visitation and reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances to Hampton Baptist Church.
