Eileen Ann Peckskamp Barbour

Eileen Ann Peckskamp Barbour (90) of Norfolk, Virginia passed away peacefully Friday, 12 Sept. 2025. She was born in 1935 to Cornelia (Gebhardt) and Peter Peckskamp in St Cloud, Minnesota. Eileen was a 1953 graduate of Shanley Catholic High School in Fargo, North Dakota, and a 1956 graduate of St Mary’s Nursing School (Mayo Clinic) in Rochester MN. She married John Edwin Barbour on 30 August 1959 in Fargo, ND. Eileen was an amazing woman of deep faith, love and dedication for her family, friends and colleagues. Her nursing career was extensive, working in locations in 5 states and involving the specialties of Pediatrics, CCU, ICU, emergency, endoscopy, free clinics and the Phoebus Rescue Squad. She retired from the Hampton VA Medical Center in 1995. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her devotion to her faith and family. Of the 26 female cousins in her mother’s family, Eileen was the third eldest and the longest living of her family. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for her daughter and grandsons. She loved genealogy and traced her ancestors back to Europe.

She is survived by her daughter Ann B Miller (Paul), daughter-in-law Elizabeth Barbour (Richard), her grandsons Spencer (Meghan) and James, great-granddaughter Lily Jane, sisters-in-law Carol Peckskamp (Jerome) and Tomasetta Khul (Thomas) and a multitude of extended family members. Eileen is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons John and Richard, brothers Jerome and Thomas Peckskamp, and sister Audrey Murray (James).

A funeral mass for Eileen will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at 12:00 PM at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 6400 Newport Ave, Norfolk, VA 23505. The rosary will start at 11:15. A burial will occur Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
