Obituary of Erna Weber Duffitt
Erna Weber Duffitt passed away on August 12, 2018. She was born June 14, 1922, in Bad Homburg, Germany and had been a resident of Hampton since 1977, after she and her deceased husband, CSM Robert Duffitt retired from the Army after completing 30 years of service. Erna was a World War II war bride and embraced the challenges and adventures that came with being an Army wife while traveling the world with her two children. She was a fun, loving individual who exhibited a great zest for life, enjoying playing bridge, travel, and outdoor activities particularly bicycling and walking. In her youth she competed in amateur running and jumping while playing tennis and horseback riding. Spending time with family and friends were very special occasions that she treasured. Even late in life during her travels she was the exception, being the only member of her travel group to climb to the top of the Great Wall of China. Until her last breath, she remained a fierce competitor in all board and card games, especially bridge. She was a long time member of the Wednesday Bridge Group at the Fort Monroe Officers’ Club and a member of the Alter Guild of the Chapel of the Centurion at Fort Monroe for 22 years. Erna was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Elise Weber. She is survived by her son, Robert F.G.C. Duffitt and his wife, Kathleen with their children Mathew, Sarah, and Christopher. Also by her daughter, Norma and her husband, Carmine Difazio and their daughter Nicole along with her husband Matthew Boyd and their children Kylie, Kacey, Kadyn, and Kloey. She will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband CSM Robert Duffitt. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23666.
