Eugene L. Stanley was called home to be with the Lord on January 8, 2019. On this day, the good Lord took him by the hand and led him home. Throughout his life he was known as “Lester”, “Stan”, “Sir Bluse”, “The Redskin Man”, “Pop Stanley” and just old “POP”.
Lester was born on April 11, 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the youngest child to the late Richard H. Stanley and late Jean E. Stanley. Lester had one sister, Ethel Hill (deceased); three brothers, Richard Stanley (deceased), Wesley Stanley (deceased), and Ronald Stanley (deceased). He was the last of the Stanley family to go be with the Lord.
Lester was raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and received his education at Carver Vocational Technical High School. He joined the Air Force after finishing high school in 1961. He continued his education through the Air Force in which he specialized as a Jet Engine Technician, completed several courses in Jet Engine Technician Organizational Maintenance in 1968, Jet Engine Accident Investigation in 1969, Trouble Analysis in 1973, NCO Academy in 1976, and Jet Engine Technician in 1983.
He received numerous decorations, medals, awards, and ribbons during his time in the Air Force. His medals included Air Force Commendation, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Campaign, Air Force Good Conduct medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry cross, and Air Force overseas long and short tour ribbons. He received awards in Air Force Longevity of Service, Air Force Outstanding Unit, and several others which are too many to mention at this time. After serving 26 years as a Master Sergent he retired in 1987. He worked for the United States Postal Services as a mail carrier for 10 years in Hampton, Virginia. He was a man of countless talents; multiple bowling leagues, loved to sing as he could hold any note, a guitarist in a jazz band, and sang in the church choir. He had an unconditional love for his family, cars, his dogs, and most of all the WASHINGTON REDSKINS!
Lester was married in February 14, 1988 to Angela T. Stanley (deceased), and left to cherish her memory are five children; sons, Michael (Pamela) Capps, David E. Capps (deceased); daughters, Deborah (Joseph) Capps Carpenter, Theresa A. Schere, and Lisa (Ken) Mottert; twelve grandchildren, Mark Carbone (deceased), Steven (Senoma) Carbone, Cliff Carbone, Edward Kelly, Timothy (Jenifer) Kelly, Jason (Amanda) Kelly, Kimberly Shiley, Jeremy Carpenter, Thomas Carpenter, Justin Scherer, Matthew (Katrina), Jessica (Alan) Bender. From his first wife, Susanna C. Johnson (deceased) married in June 15, 1961 left to cherish her memory are children, Antonio (Crystal) Stanley, Leslie (Tony) Forney, Donna (Edmond) Cannon, Renata (Yeisont) Medina, a son outside of the marriage; special niece and nephew, Angela Spencer and David (Cicela) Williamson; five grandchildren, Tony (Ronni) Forney, Dealoe (Kristen) Forney, Miguelina Medina, Yeisont Medina, Nathaniel Medina; six great-grandchildren, Karter J. Forney, Rowyn L. Forney, Mariah A. Forney, Tony L. Forney, Vito L. Forney, Raelynn C. Burns; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23666. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
