Eva Joan Benton

Joan, as she like to be called, was born July 25, 1934 to the late JL and Estelle Massengill of Meridian, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin (Buddy) Benton; sons, William and Robert; and her twin sister, Jean.

As a military spouse, Joan was well-traveled and lived in several other states, as well as, abroad. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and after settling into Hampton, she worked until retirement at Hampton General Hospital. Afterwards, Joan continued working many years for Dr. Acosta at his office in Hampton.

She enjoyed spending time with her loving husband of 65 years, which included traveling, gardening and bowling. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Brenda English of Newport News; her son, Calvin Benton, Jr. and his wife, Bobbie of South Carolina; her son, Michael Wayne Benton of Newport News. Joan is also survived by nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A private celebration of Joan's life will be held on Sunday followed by interment at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens.
