Frances "Babe" Ames left our hearts Monday, 21st of July, 2025 at the age of 93. She was a strong, determined, and independent woman. She had many friends due to her kind, fun-loving, and generous spirit. She had a great sense of humor and the ability to brighten the lives of those around her with her unique brand of sunshine. She cherished her family and held her friends dear. She was born January 8th, 1932 in Easton, Maryland. She spent her childhood days in many small Virginia towns following her father’s career as a minister.
In 1954 she graduated from Longwood University and began teaching 2nd grade for the Hampton school system. In 1957 she married the love of her life, Leonard Hall "Honey" Ames who passed away in 2017. She missed him greatly for the remainder of her life and would always leave the lights on (just like he told her) as a reminder of their love. Her family carries on knowing that together they each hold a part of that same love that she and "Honey" shared.
She wished to be remembered as fiercely loyal, adoring of her family, and encouraging of others to use love and kindness as the centerpieces of their lives. She is survived by her brother Joey; her two sons, Clay and his partner Sherri, Todd and his fiancee Megan; her grandchildren Allison (Amanda), Jessica (Matt), Maddie (Cailen), Christopher (Perry), Max (Elizabeth); her great-grandchildren Theodore, Logan, Millie, Cameron.
We love you so very much "Babe."
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Friday August 1st at First Presbyterian Church, 514 South Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA. A reception will follow the service. All are welcome.
