Frances Melvina Coffey, 91, better known in the family as Nanny, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, February 12, 2024. She was born in Staunton, Virginia on March 9, 1932, and was a longtime resident of Hampton, Virginia.
Nanny is survived by her children Alice Meyers, Jeff Coffey, Alisa Grogan, Kenneth Coffey Jr and Tammy Forrester: her thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Coffey, son Larry Clark, daughter Gail Clark and sister Kay Keyes.
Nanny was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Nanny was loved by many. While we grieve her loss, we take comfort knowing that she is at peace and reunited with family that went before her. Nanny was known for dispensing advice and letting you know what she thought, the good and the bad. Her favorite piece of advice to her grandchildren was "don't take any wooden nickels". She will be remembered by her sense of humor, her fierce determination and fiery spirit. In our hearts always.
