She passed away peacefully at 104 years of age, having experienced enormous changes in the world. From travel by horseback to electric, self-driving automobiles; from oil lamps and wood stoves to solar electricity and microwave ovens. From handwritten letters delivered by horseback to emails sent around the world in seconds. The changes she experienced are truly a marvel!
Growing up in idyllic Indian Valley, Virginia, Frankie was surrounded by extended family and never lacked love and security. Frankie always said that she would not change how and where she grew up for any amount of money.
However, with the onset of WWII Frankie and the love of her life, husband Clifford P. Martin had to leave the mountains of Virginia in order to provide for their small family. In 1941, the young couple found themselves in Hampton, VA, the town that became their home. Though Frankie spent most of her life in Hampton, Indian Valley was always the place held dear to her heart.
The joy in her life came from providing a happy, loving home for her husband and three children; Charles H. Martin, Gloucester, VA (deceased), Linda M. Fleet, Hampton, VA, and Daryl C. Martin, Atlanta, GA (deceased).
Frankie was an excellent cook, an avid gardener, a loyal friend, and a gentle, Christ-like woman. She was the very essence of a lady.
Frankie will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
