Robert Fred Blevins was born July 17, 1942, the middle child of Robert Graham Blevins and Fannie Bell Widener Blevins of Chilhowie, VA. He had two sisters, Betty Cullop and Terri Martin. He had many aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews. He also was blessed with a wife, Peggy Hayden and a daughter Sabrene’ Willis, grandson, Hayden Willis and granddaughter, Sophia Willis. Fred grew up a country boy, hunting, fishing, playing football, basketball and baseball. After graduating from Abingdon Technical School, he worked at Newport News Shipyard for forty-three years working his way up to electrical engineer. He married Peggy Hayden Feb. 14, 1964 and they resided in the Tidewater area for sixty-one years. He was also blessed with a wonderful church, West Hampton Baptist, where he served in many areas. His favorite role in the church was teaching God’s word. Dementia became an issue and he was forced to give up those things. Fred fought a good fight for eight years. He suffered but never questioned God’s plan for him.
