He was born in Brewster, Kansas, in 1930, and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served seven years in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He married Louise Bostic on August 19, 1950, and they settled in Hampton, Virginia, where he began his career at Newport News Shipbuilding. He retired after 33 years. He was a member of Northampton Christian Church. Gayle faithfully took care of his wife, Louise, for 17 years after she was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, until her death in 2011.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise B. Voris.
He is survived by his four children, Amy (Marty) Dickerson, Arthur (Cathy) Voris, Neil (Terri) Voris and Tami Swanenburg; 19 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. His family will have a private graveside service to honor him.
