Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 55 years, Laura Murray Morgan of the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Sherri Jessup (Jimmy) of Yorktown, VA and Sharon Lontoc (Mike) of Hainesport, NJ; eight grandchildren, Will, Steven, and Nick DeShong, Matt, Megan and Sarah Lontoc, and Jimmy and Ryan Jessup; two sisters, Pat (Sonny) Gill of Midland, GA and Terri Smith of Columbus, GA; brothers, Grady (Sandie) Morgan of Joplin, MO and John (Sandra) Morgan of Kinston, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews. George is a graduate of Columbus State University, in Columbus, Georgia. After his years in the United States Army he became a civil servant and retired from civil service with a combined 38 years of Government service. George retired in 2002 as the Director of TRADOC, Safety, Ammunition, Fire and Environment (SAFE) at Fort Monroe, Virginia. George loved his job and spoke often of the wonderful, lifelong relationships he developed with people he met during his years in the military and civilian service, especially his dear friend of 35 years, John Pessagno. George was a member of the Gideons International for a number of years before he retired. George was extremely active in his church, Ivy Memorial Baptist in Hampton, VA where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. George was extremely generous with his time and money and took particular interest in the youth as they would one day be our leaders. After retirement, George was an avid fisherman and golfer. He very much enjoyed his weekly card playing group and the many trips to the mountains through the years.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Scott Kruger, and Dr. Michael Miller of the Hampton office of Virginia Oncology Association and their staff and Personal Touch Hospice for exceptionally compassionate, kind and exemplary care to George and our family.
