

George J. Piszko, 94, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He had been a resident of the Hampton Roads area since 1950. George was born April 22, 1916 in Butler, PA to the late Paul and Barbara Piszko, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. He graduated from Butler High School in 1935 and went on to graduate from Robert Morris Business College in Pittsburgh, PA. He was WWII veteran and served in the European theater. George retired after 30 years of civil service at Langley AFB.
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. George enjoyed working in his yard, reading, cooking ethnic foods, watching college sporting events, and was also an avid vegetable gardener.
He was a founding member and patriarch of Ascension of Our Lord Byzantine Catholic Church in Williamsburg, volunteering hundreds of hours at the church with his wife, Julie, each year.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Proveux; nephew, Lawrence Proveux; and grandson, Michael John Dunham.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia; sons, Dennis of Hampton, and David and wife, Janet of Houston, TX; daughter, Patty Dunham and husband, Michael of Virginia Beach; and grandsons, Paul Piszko and wife, Isle of Atlanta, GA, and Jeffrey Dunham and wife, Nadine of South Lake Tahoe, CA.
George will be missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 3, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Prayers will be from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
