Born in McColl, South Carolina, Grady enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17 with his father's permission and proudly served four years during the Vietnam War era. After leaving the military, he relocated to Sanford, North Carolina, where he met his wife of 51 years. They later moved to Hampton, Virginia, to be closer to his wife's family, building a life filled with love, dedication, and community.
Grady was a devoted family man and active member of his community. He enjoyed fishing, church activities, and volunteering with Northampton Little League. He retired after 20 years as a pipe fitter at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
Later in life, Grady moved to Roanoke County to be closer to his daughter, who lovingly cared for him throughout his five-year battle with Devic's disease. During this time, he greatly appreciated the encouraging phone calls from family members Bill and Jennie Davis, Frank and Alice Bolen, and Kevin and Paula Stein. The family
would also like to extend a special thank you to Amedisys Home Health Care and to Angel White, his devoted friend and care assistant.
Grady is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Kimbler Baldwin; his children, William Wornom, Shane Baldwin (Maureen), Susan Bagley (Alan) , Shawna Wiebold (Martin), and Michael Wornom (Sonya). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his brother Rudolph "Doc" Baldwin, and Peggy Corley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Corbitt Baldwin and Effie Ione Poole; his sisters, Mary Clark, Gladys Smith, Betty Goins, and Ernestine Yow; and his brother, James "Jake" Baldwin.
