Capt. Gregory L. Russell, 64, passed away at home on Monday, July 25, 2011. He was born in Newport News and was a resident of Hampton for 23 years. Gregory was employed with the Newport News Fire Department as its Captain and retired in August 2002 after 35 years of service. He was a veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp.
Preceding him in rest is his wife of 32 years, Peggy T. Russell; and his mother, Jean K. Allen. He is survived by his daughter, Yvonne Gilbert and her husband, Jamie; his son, Christopher Russell and his wife, Nightingale; grandchildren, Timothy, Taylor and Paris Russell; and aunt, Mary Lou Shives.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Gregory's life will be held on Friday, July 29, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
