Gwendolyn Joyce Stennis

Gwendolyn Joyce Stennis, affectionately known as “Gwen”, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, at the age of 73.

Born on April 30, 1952, in North Carolina, Gwen dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked for many years as a nurse’s aide, spending much of her career in hospitals, operating rooms, and nursing homes. Her compassion brought comfort to countless patients and support for medical teams. Her work reflected not only skill but also deep kindness and patience that touched everyone she met.

After leaving the healthcare setting, Gwen continued to serve others through her work of cleaning homes and hotels. She took pride in helping families maintain warm, welcoming spaces, and she approached this work with the same devotion and dignity she gave to everything in life.

Beyond her work, Gwen was known for her strength, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. She would love to brag on her family. Gwen had a funny character, as people would always state. We as a family had many laughs with her. The laughter will be truly missed.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Rebecca Stennis, father Purvis Stennis, and sister Barbara Stennis.

She will be deeply missed by her family, including daughter Tanya Tilmon and husband, Tony Tilmon, daughter Charlene Stennis, granddaughter Jazmine Tilmon, and grandsons Christian and Elijah, as well as by the many friends and neighbors whose lives she touched.
