

In 1949, Hetty married Charles Miller Evans of Colerain, NC, her husband of 39 years. She was a devoted wife and mother of three who faithfully served the Lord as a pastor’s wife at New Testament Baptist Church in Hampton, VA; Faith Baptist Church in Windsor, NC; and Grace Baptist Church in Rich Square, NC. Miss Hetty, as she was affectionately referred to, also served as a Christian school teacher at Immanuel Christian School in Edenton, NC. She earned a Bachelor of Religious Education degree from Faith Bible Theological Seminary in Milton, FL.
After Charles’ death in 1989, Hetty married Willard James Hargrove, Sr. of Jackson, NC, her husband of 25 years. Hetty continued to serve in ministry singing and playing the piano, which she loved to do. In 2013, Hetty returned to Hampton, VA to be near her family. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Hetty was known to all as a sweet lady who was a prayer warrior and a great encourager. She loved her family and was a godly example to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Hetty is survived by her three children, June Wilson (Robert) of Newport News, VA; Vanessa Leach (Robert) of Hampton, VA; and Charles Evans (Pam) of Greenville, SC. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Angela Malarkey, Dan Leach (Ying), Manessa Wellons, Joe Leach (Josie), Ben Leach (Bonney), Belinda Taylor (Duane), Rachel Leach, Jon Leach (Valerie), Nathan Evans, Carrie Cathey (Andrew), David Evans (Shelby), and Sarah Evans; 15 great-grandchildren, Alex Logan, Eric Logan, JR Pettus, Kayla Malarkey, Chandler Leach, Charlize Hauer, Ethan Leach, Jailyn Wellons, Christina Leach, Samantha Leach, Aniya Pettus, Joey Leach, Abigail Leach, Jackson Hauer, and Eleanor Leach; and one great-great-grandchild, Lucian Leach. Hetty was predeceased by four brothers, Kelly, Jim Allen, Woody, and Bob Hoggard; five sisters, Lille Mae Whitaker, Margaret Saleeby, Florence Hampton, Sadie Castellow, and Nancy Hoggard; and one grandchild, Robby Wilson.
Hetty was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 1647 Briarfield Road, Hampton, VA with a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. The burial will follow at 3:30 PM at Edgewood Cemetery in Windsor, NC.
