Irmgard F. Bryan (Mom, Mommy, Oma, Schatz, Immy) beloved mother, wife, sister, accordionist died on May 16, 2019. She was born in Frankfurt, Germany and was a former resident of Yorktown and Hampton, Virginia. She traveled around the country and world as a military wife with tours in Germany, Sumter, SC and Big Spring, Texas, until finally returning home to Hampton.
Irmgard enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to go bowling with Charlie and creating beautiful flower gardens. She was a long time member of the Tidewater German America Society participating in the Frauen Club and Volksmarch. She would always bring her accordion along to play at German celebrations, as well as, birthday parties and holidays. Irmgard loved to volunteer especially with babies. She became a Gray Lady at Shaw Air Force Base on October 24, 1960. She continued to volunteer at several Air Force hospitals during her husband’s military career, including Langley Air Force Base.
Irmgard is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Tarvin, Gloria Bryan (Doug Bloxom), Christine Soucy (Shawn), and Betty Fish (David); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brother Fritz Rychetsky (Elke), plus many nieces and nephews in Germany. Irmgard was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years Charlie, parents, Berthold and Elisabeth Rychetsky, sister, Annalise and brothers Berthold and Kurt.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666 , with a celebration of Irmgards’ life to immediately follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens.
