

He was a financial planner with New York Life and retired after a 20 year career.
He was an active member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Men’s group and devoted many hours to helping others. He retired after a 23 year career with the U.S. Army where he served two tours in Vietnam and obtained the rank of Lt. Col. During his military career he was highly decorated with numerous citations including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. He was a member of the Phoebus Lions Club for thirty-one years where he had served as their President in the past. He was an alumnus of Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Rupert Richardson; brothers, R.L. Richardson and McCoy Richardson; and sister, Mildred “Biddy” Rowell.
Surviving members of his family include his wife of forty-six years, Evelyn Joan Richardson; daughters, Sharon Joann Zamrin and husband Michael, and Sandra Michele Chewning and Jeremy Deel; son, Marcus Richardson and wife Margaret; grandchildren, Joshua Zamrin, Jamie Zamrin, Sydney Chewing, Joseph Chewing, Georgia Richardson, Evan Richardson, Erik Deel; sisters, Mary Lou Hyatt and Dorothy Sattane.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Friday morning, July 9, at 11 AM, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 99 E. Mercury Boulevard, in Hampton, officiated by Rev. Jeff Cannon and Rev. John Ericson. Interment will be held privately.
