James R. Sorrell

James was born to Matthew James Sorrell and Octavia Cox on March 22, 1954 in Westmoreland County, VA. James loved to barbecue on the grill, eat crabs, watch boxing, go fishing, and play pool. Let's not forget his music; James Brown was his man! And we can't forget about how he kept his cars clean.

James was a kind man--a man of a few words, but loving. He loved his family, and he adored his wife, children, and grandchildren, Anila and Seniyah.

James will be missed be missed by all who knew him. He fought a long fight to stay here with us all.

James was preceded in death by: both of his parents; brothers, James Sorrell, Willie Sorrell, and John Sorrell; and sisters, Lucy Franklin and Alice Payne.

He leaves to remember him: his loving and caring wife, Angela; son, Angelo (Shante) of Hampton; daughter, Jaimi of Westville, NJ; stepson, Kurtis of Hampton; granddaughters, Anila and Seniyah Sorrell; sisters, Mary Kenton of Houston, TX, Lorraine Pruett of Vacaville, CA, Helen Payton, Alberta McDowney, Dorothy Toliver, Mary Ross, Patricia Kellibrew; brother, Lewis Sorrell; sister-in-law, Naomi Sorrell; and Marion Sorrell, all from the Washington D.C. area, and a host of nieces and nephews.

"James, you have gone on to be with the Lord, but you'll always be here in my heart forever. When I first saw you, I knew you were for me. You were my soulmate and forever will be. I love you so much!" - Angie

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue Hampton, VA 23666.
