James K. Thornton, Jr, 67, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was a resident of Hampton, Virginia for 39 years where he was a Newport News Shipyard employee for 42 years prior to his retirement.
James was a US Army veteran who served his country in Vietnam, and loved woodworking.
James was preceded in rest by his parents, James K. and Dorothy M. Thornton. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Virginia Thornton; daughter, Barbara Thornton and husband Rick of Hampton; son Kenneth Thornton and wife Anne of Mims, Florida; 2 grandchildren, Joshua Thornton, of Tampa, Florida and Joey Thornton of Hampton; brothers, Thomas Thornton and wife Tess and John Thornton and wife Denise, both of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and sister, Dorothy Thornton of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James’ honor may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.
