James Preston Turner, age 61, of Yorktown, Virginia. James was born November 10, 1960. James passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 after fighting so hard to come back from his ATV accident on November 14, 2021. He suffered a head injury when riding his ATV without a helmet and was on his way to rehab. Jimmy worked for Waco from 1979-1994 and Ricks Heating and Air from 1994- 2014. Jim was an avid sportsman and was not one to stay inside. In 2014 Jim had suffered from a TBI and a short 6 months later, Merkel cell carcinoma. However, he fought the fight and did not allow either to keep him down. He made sure to try everything to be the best he could be. Jim had an overwhelming love for his daughter Jamie, and he was dedicated to being the best single father humanly possible. We can’t express all the ways that “Uncle Jimmy-Pop” was there for children. The unconditional love he had for his nieces-nephews and great nieces-nephews was undeniable. He and his baby sister/best friend, Kathie, were simply inseparable. Honestly the peanut butter and jelly of the family and when you saw her, you saw him.
Preceded in death by: His father, Richard L. Turner, Jr., and Sister, Dale Marie Oaks.
Survived by his only child and light of his life; his daughter that he took every single breath for, Jamie Turner (Ryan) Hampton, Mother and Step Father, Catherine & Henry Guilford Hampton, Siblings: Johanne Breaux Seaford, Linda Wray (Norman) Charlotte Court House, Marilyn Modlin (Michael) Newport News, Richard Turner (Gay) Chesapeake, Cheryl Turner Bealeton, Barbara Gilmartin (Claude) Portsmouth, Theresa Helfrich (David) Gloucester, Kathie Stokes (John) Tabb, Lisa Malla (Rick) Virginia Beach, Hank Guilford (Michele) Hampton and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that meant the world to him! Jimmy also had a very special group of friends at the Triangle Hunt Club that he spent his time with and truly loved like family.
We have no doubts that Jimmy still has our back and that he’s pulling for our whole family and many friends. Jim, you showed us all what it means to love. We’ll try to live up to it.
