Obituary of Jane H Nicosia
Jane Hood Nicosia, 91, wife of the late Salvatore Nicosia Jr. went to be with our Lord July 4, 2024. Jane was born in Southport, North Carolina on November 21, 1932 to James R. and Ethel Julia Hood. She was the youngest of four children and moved to Virginia as a young child when her father took a job at Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown. She graduated from Warwick High School. Jane married the love of her life, Salvatore "Boogie" Nicosia, Jr., and raised four children whom they loved and cherished. They were married for more than 60 years. She worked many jobs in her life, with one of the most memorable being at Nick's Seafood Pavilion in Yorktown VA. She and Boogie loved to travel, spending most of their travels seeing the treasures of her beloved United States, including a trip to Hawaii. Her greatest accomplishment was knowing her four children were happy and successful, as her most important roles were being a wife and mother. She loved all things American, her cozy sweatshirts and watching baseball, especially her Atlanta Braves. Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James R. Hood and Ethel J. Hood; brothers James R. Hood Jr, and William C. Hood and sister Mary N. Hill. She leaves behind her four beloved children: Michael Nicosia and wife Carol, Lynn Steiner and husband Vilas, Salvatore "Nick" Nicosia III and wife Effie, Paige Slemp and husband Randy. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Tony Nicosia (Angie), Bryan Eubanks (Hannah), Rachel Hartberger (Adam), Laura Slemp, Vince Nicosia (Anna), Brendan Nicosia (Rachel) and great-grandchildren Connor, Cole, Juliana, Logan and Baby Girl Nicosia due August 2024. She is also survived by a number of very special nieces and nephews who she loved and remained close with throughout life. Jane lived a full life of over 91 years. She will be enormously missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her family and friends. Abby her daytime companion and best friend will miss her dearly in particular her belly rubs and special treats. A very special thank you to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice team who took exceptional care of Jane. A special thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Cooper and her staff at TPMG of Hidenwood Family Medicine, who lovingly took care of both Boogie and Jane for many years. The family would like to also express our thanks to everyone who visited, brought food, provided words of comfort and prayers during these last few weeks. According to her wishes a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice through Riverside Foundations website at Riverside Walter Reed Hospice or mail donations to Riverside Foundation 701 Town Center Drive, Suite 1000 Newport News VA 23606.
