She was born on March 26, 1939 in Halifax County. She began her career as an actress after graduating from Mary Washington College. After some performances in productions in New York, she began teaching English to middle school students. Once she retired from Hampton City Schools, she pursued her interests in reading, travel, pottery, and gardening. She sought to maintain, as well as develop, new friendships.
She was never long without a cat to keep her company. Janet will be remembered for her love of a good joke and for giving wise counsel to those who sought it.
Janet was preceded in rest by her parents, Robert Fulton and Marie Douglas. She is survived by her cousin, Sam Douglas; and her caregiver and friend, Janice Singleton.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
