

Janet E. (Merrill) Lippus, 71, of Newport News, VA passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 27, 2017. Janet was born in 1945 in Bangor, Maine to Eleana Osgood Merrill and Colonel (Ret) Clifford R. Merrill. Traveling her youth as an Army BRAT and again later as an Army Spouse she saw Europe, Central America and much of the US with her 4 sisters and then her own family. She worked when possible in the medical field as a Nurse’s Aide unselfishly taking care of others. Her interests included her family, friends, crafting, gardening, music and writing. Her strength and courage helped mentor others to take control of their lives as she would not let any illness define her. Janet was a servant in the image of Christ, helping others through her words, actions and love.
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her daughter Dawn L. Lomax (Chip), son Edwin F. Lippus II (JR) (Amy), her siblings Bette Cullen (Tom), Barbara Eager (Rick), Frances Rioz (Frank), Ann Miller (Merl), half-sister Joan Friese, grandchildren Bryant, Miranda and Megan Lippus, Rachel and Bo Lomax, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, Newport News, VA at 2:00pm Friday, February 3, 2017. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. A private family interment will be on a future date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that Memorial Contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to the School that her grandchildren attended Gloria Dei Lutheran School.
