John C. Bennett

John Carlisle Bennett, age 94, of Hampton, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 9, 2021. He was born July 21, 1926 in Cairo, Illinois to Joseph and Gertrude Bennett. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Missouri and was the Vice-President of Maida Development Company, where he retired in 2003 after 53 years of service. During World War II, John served with General Patton in the Army and achieved the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, John enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and spending time in the garden with his flowers. He also enjoyed watching CNN in his spare time. John is survived by his sons, Kenneth Cunningham (Pam) and Jeff Cunningham (Sandy); grandsons, Matt Cunningham (Amy) and Aaron Cunningham (Michelle); and a great granddaughter Lilly Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Millie Bennett. The family would like to give a special thank you to his caretaker, Barbara, who John loved dearly and has been with the family for 22 years. A graveside service for John will be held Friday, May 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's name to the SPCA.
