He had many interests and hobbies during his life but none more prevalent than cheering for the Cowboys, fishing/crabbing, and picking on his daughter's to remind them that he will always know which buttons to push. He made friends with anybody he saw as worth speaking with and would make sure you knew if you didn't meet his expectations. John will be remembered most for being unashamed of who he was and what he was willing to do in order to be there for family, even if he didn't like that person. Family is the single thing that he would strive to support no matter the cost. John's family and friends will carry forward his spirit in making sure that we strive to emulate that drive and support for family.
John is survived and will be remembered by his four daughters. He was the youngest of four children and both parents, Madeline Clayborne and John Clayborne Sr., preceded him. He was a loving spouse to Christine Clayborne even after separation. Not a day went by that he did not think of her. He will join her at the pearly gates.
As John has voiced many times during his later years dealing with medical conditions, we would appreciate any and all prayers for him but he "Ain't got time for this foosh-niss."
A Visitation and Gathering will take place at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Visitation Rooms, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666, on May 22, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
