

Born March 27, 1954 he was a lifelong resident of the Peninsula. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Devout catholic, he was an alumnus of Peninsula Catholic High School and served as a fourth-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus catholic organization. A member in the North South Skirmish Association for the Old Dominion Dragoons he served as commander of the team, regional commander of the Tidewater Region/national board of directors' representative on multiple occasions throughout his 37-year tenure.
Master carpenter, you can see his legacy throughout Williamsburg homes in King's Mill, Ford's Colony, and Governor's Land. He is preceded in death by his daughter Theresa Catherine Malarkey, parents Cecelia and Robert Malarkey Sr., and brothers Robert Malarkey Jr. and Patrick Malarkey.
He is survived by wife Ann Malarkey of Surry, VA, son John Michael Malarkey Jr. of Surry, VA, daughter Christina Marie Shore (Jason) of Perth, Western Australia, son Jason McMillan (Raquel) and six grandchildren (Ayla, Isabella, Noah, Thomas, Sienna and Nate). Other survivors include his brothers Joseph Malarkey (Eleanor) and Daniel Malarkey (Libby), and sisters Cecelia (Cece) Rudy-Martin and Elizabeth (Lisa) Hitson (Robert).
A visitation for John will be held Friday, August 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A celebration of life funeral service will occur Friday, August 15, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. An interment with north south honors to follow service will occur Friday, August 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
