John A. Reid of Norfolk, Va. passed away suddenly on March 3, 2024, in his Hampton home with family at his side. John was a native of Norfolk, born in 1938 to Frank and Virginia Reid. He graduated from Maury High School in 1956 and attended the college of William and Mary (Old Dominion). He later continued his education in computer programming at IBM. He married his high school sweetheart, Faye, in 1957 and they raised two children, Carol and Michael.
John had a long professional career at J.G. Wilson Co. where he honed his drafting and digital skills. John was a proud lifelong member of the Knights of Pythias and served the lodge in different capacities throughout his life. He held many positions in the Order and was honored to serve as Past Grand Chancellor. He later became a train enthusiast and an active member of the Tidewater Big Train Operators club as he enjoyed his hobby of building trains and creating detailed handmade scenic layouts to scale. In recent years, John enjoyed metal detecting with his wife and fellow Tidewater Coin Relic club and Hampton Roads Recovery Society club members in high hopes of finding that elusive treasure!
John is survived by his devoted wife Faye, daughter Carol and husband Carl Peet, son Michael and wife Susanne Reid, granddaughter Haily and husband John Ducote, and two great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at the Pythian Castle 5341 E Princess Anne Rd. Norfolk, Saturday March 23 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Louie's Huwe-HUWE1 Foundation
